Happy Tuesday!
I swore that I wrote and posted the newsletter for this week but apparently not! Our field trip to the Eagle River Nature Center was amazing, really. Our guide (and rock star parent, Liza) did an amazing job walking us through a bit of the trails, discussing soil profiles, and providing us with a wonderful soil experiment. Did you hear all about it? If you haven't been told about the fish we saw... definitely ask your child! This week we have begun incorporating all components of our work plan; Daily 5, math, science, and culture. All grade levels are expected to complete this work each day during our learning block time which is from 9am until 12pm. We will talk more about this at the Open House on Thursday night. I will walk you through our website (quickly!), talk about classroom expectations for both students and parents, and a few other housecleaning type of things. If you are a returning student/parent, I have changed things slightly this year and it offers an opportunity to talk about it together. With benchmark testing behind us, until winter, we are working hard each and every day in class with a focus on literacy and math. Please encourage your child to do their spelling words each night at home and read 15-20 minutes. This will strengthen their vocabulary and fluency and help them in all academic areas. On our board outside of the classroom door I have posted some pink hearts; this is our wish list board. These are items that would be lovely to have in class and they include things like hand sanitizer, hand soap, and a few Montessori materials that we are lacking in class. I will add to this board as needed throughout the year. A BIG thank you to Olivia's mom, Veronica, for donating an electric sharpener for our room. It's like HEAVEN! Have a wonderful week and as always, stop by or email me to chat! Christine Homan Important Dates: September 18th: Open House, 6:30pm October 9th: Field trip to see Aladdin @ West High, 9am-12pm
