Happy Monday!
We are still getting acclimated to our class as a whole but we are hitting the ground running. The first grade group is focusing on learning and implementing the Daily 5 component of their work plan

Please enroll in Remind! If you did so last year, you're already good to go. If you're new to our class or did not enroll last year please follow these simple steps so you don't miss out on quick reminders for class:
1) Text the number (where the phone number goes) 81010 2) The message is @66ab0 (that's a zero on the end) Our upcoming field trip is going to be $3 admission; it covers the cost of the entrance fee and helps to pay for our chaperones parking fees. Thank you! I know this was an oversight on my part and I apologize. I appreciate your patience with me while I sort out my brain for the school year. Mrs. Homan :) What an amazing start to the school year we had!
I am so excited about what this year is going to bring, we have such an amazing group of kids and so many excellent things to look forward to this year. Our routines are the same as last year with the exception of the snack calendar. Please send in an extra item in your child's lunch each day. I will do my best to post Celebration of Life dates in the "Important Dates" as I'm aware of them so that if your child has a food allergy you will have time to provide something for them on that day. Our first graders will be joining us beginning Wednesday, August 26th. We will be having a "Welcome Breakfast" first thing in an effort to ease them into their new classroom. If you would like to contribute, please send in something healthy and easy to serve. Some ideas the kids had were fruit, breads, juice, and yogurt. We completed all of our assessments the first week; this includes spelling, math, and reading. Please make sure to ask your child for the spelling form that I sent home. It has the weekly words for this week as well as their current spelling group. Keep in mind that as they progress through the year, this group may change. If you would like a copy of the benchmark testing/assessment, please let me know. This is a great tool for me to use to guide our instruction! Can you join us on our Eagle River Nature Center field trip on September 11th? We will be leaving the school at 9am, returning around 2:30pm. We are still in need of a few more drivers. Please let me know as soon as possible. The admission is $1 per person and $5 for parking. I forgot to include this on the form (sorry, beginning of the year and I'm still trying to get my brain back into the game!) but I would appreciate any donations towards the parking since each driver is already contributing their gas for this trip. Community Service Project: Each month we are going to be doing a community service project. For September the kids have decided they would like to build a Free Little Library. How awesome is that? We have one parent volunteering to help construct one already, I would LOVE to have a second one to use for our Montessori Gala "basket" item. Can you help? Important Dates: September 11th- Eagle River Nature Center field trip Mrs. Homan :) Welcome to the 2015/2016 school year!!
I am so excited to see all of your bright and smiling faces again and I cannot wait for what we will explore this year! How was your summer? Mine was wonderful and very busy; I traveled quite a bit, remodeled our kitchen, and spent a lot of time enjoying the glorious weather! I cannot wait to hear about your adventures and all of the shenanigans that you got into. The first week back to school will be just the second and third graders, this will give us time to go over and practice the classroom expectations to refresh our brains. It will also give us a great opportunity to prepare the classroom and to welcome our first graders. The second week of school I will be relying heavily on the second and third graders to be exceptional role models and show our new first graders the way around the classroom. I know I can count on you; you all rock! The first week or two of school there will not be any homework. I am revisiting how homework will be assigned this year. It will still require reading each night but I'm looking at changing the way we do spelling and I'm interested in incorporating practical life skills at home with your families in lieu of traditional homework. Thoughts on this? REMIND 101 will still be used this year and I believe if you're already enrolled in it you will not need to do anything else, it should carry over from last year. We will do a test run! Are you reading this BEFORE school starts? I know some of you are! If you wouldn't mind sending in a few things for snack to get us started I would so appreciate it. Graham crackers, goldfish, string cheese, etc. I will take whatever you're willing to give! I would love, LOVE for more parent-lead lessons and activities this year. Do you have a special skill that you've been hiding from me? Please let me know, I would love to have you in our classroom for small group lessons with the kids. Are you brave enough to invite us to your workplace? Let's chat about the different options! I hope to see all of you at the Back to School event! See you soon!
