Thank you for attending the Parent-Teacher conference this past week. I know that sometimes it can be difficult to carve out time in your schedule but it was so nice to get to chat with each of you for a short while. Please remember, if you ever have any questions or concerns to contact me.
Last week we integrated math, science, and writing into a pumpkin activity. The kids estimated how many seeds were inside the pumpkins, estimated their weights, and learned some interesting new facts about pumpkins. They also began their first creative writing project that involved them recording information while carving the pumpkins and turning the steps they took into a transitional and creative writing piece. These are turning out very nicely and will be shared in the hallway once completed. This coming week we have a lot of exciting things going on as well! Tuesday is our field trip to the PAC for Schoolhouse Rock Live! We will be leaving the school around 9:15-9:30 to walk downtown and arriving back at school around noon. Thursday is the school carnival from 6:30-8, with the dance continuing on until 8:30pm. Friday will be our classroom Halloween party and celebration of Aden's birthday. Halloween Party: for our classroom party we will be doing a sensory activity/story, a halloween craft, and enjoying food, chatter, and laughter with each other. I will be sending home a letter requesting that each child bring in a food item to share. Please no peanuts, tree nuts, or carrots. Have a great week! I am in need of one volunteer to help in the classroom on Wednesday, October 22nd, to help with carving our pumpkins. We will begin the carving around 10:15am. Can you help? We are also in need of at least one more large pumpkin, this will give us two to carve as a class and to complete our science, math, and writing activities with. This week we will be starting our study of The Second Great Lesson. Please ask your child what demonstrations they took part in on Monday and Tuesday of this week. We will be learning about the coming of life. Now that we are two months into the school year and we have been using the computer lab and classroom computers quite a bit, I am realizing that we need student headphones to help ease the noise factor. Please supply headphones for your child, these will be kept at school. They will be used in computer lab and our classroom only. They will be stored in a bin in our classroom so please make sure to label them with your childs' name. I do have a few pairs of ear buds that children can share as well. Half-days/Conferences: please bring your child with you, they will be showing you the work they have done this quarter. If you can't remember when your conference is, please email me at [email protected]. I will also send home a reminder slip with your child of your date and time. Classroom Directory: During our conference I will be asking if you would like to be part of our classroom directory. This will include your childs' name, your name, and your contact information so that other children and parents in our class may contact you for play dates, birthday parties, etc. Has John made a visit to your house yet? We have really enjoyed the adventures that he is going on and each week we look forward to hearing what he has been up to! Unfortunately his suitcase has been damaged so severely that we had to throw it away. Please remind your child of their responsibility to care for John and his accessories while on their adventures; we have been talking about it in class as well. If you haven't had an adventure with him yet, you are on the list! Thank you, have a wonderful week! Christine Homan Important Dates: October 28th- Schoolhouse Rock Live! field trip, please be at school no later than 9am. We have had an awesome week in class! Students are taking responsibility for their work, behaviors, and are showing amazing progress in all areas of academics and social skills. I am so proud of all of our kiddos; they are doing some great things. The Primary wing has agreed that students who forget their lunch in the classroom must wait until after lunch to eat. It is the students responsibility to place their lunch on the cart each day or to check themselves in for hot lunch. Don't fret! If they forgot their lunch in the classroom they can eat it in class; we are always eating in class! :) It is truly cold outside now, all day long. Please make sure your student comes well prepared each day with a winter jacket, hat, gloves, boots, and soon they will need snow pants. The school policy is that all students will go outside unless there is a driving rain or it is -10 degrees below zero. If they do not have a jacket they will still be sent outside. As a school staff we sat down and scheduled conferences for next week, October 22-23rd. Please look for the invitation to your conference in your child's backpack on Monday afternoon. Next week is Red Ribbon week; we will be talking about the importance of being drug and alcohol free throughout the week. It is also spirit week, please encourage your child to dress accordingly for each day and join the fun! Monday: Wear red Tuesday: Crazy Sock Day Wednesday: Dress like an Olympian Thursday: Pajama Day! Friday: No school! Classroom Wish List: 3 large pumpkins (science, math, and writing activity- needed Mid-October) 1 box of noodles Glue sticks Important Dates: October 22-23rd - Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences/Half-days October 28th- Schoolhouse Rock Live! field trip October 30th- Fall Carnival, 6:30-8pm October 31st- Scholastic Order due Thank you for turning in your child's permission slip for the upcoming field trip on October 28th. I know it is way in advance for both the slip and the admission fee but I have to pay for our seats on October 6th. I appreciate your support and promptness in returning the forms and money.
You may have seen the Classroom Faces order form sent home. Each student has drawn their face and name on a slip of paper that will be screen printed onto a t-shirt and labeled with our classroom name. This is a fun activity to do as a class and the t-shirts can be used for field trips, special events, and just for fun! They are $15 each; please have the form and money sent in by October 15th if you would like to order one. Once I have submitted the order I cannot purchase additional shirts, it is a one time deal. I realized that I have been sending home quite a few things asking for money for this and that (I feel like a pan handler!) and I promise to be more aware of that. Each month I will send home one set of Scholastic catalogs. These are great books at a great cost. The benefit of our classroom is that for every order we submit we earn points to use towards our classroom library. Thanks to the families who have already placed orders we have already earned around 15 new books for our library. So thank you for putting up with all of the order forms! We have begun studying the Earth and some great things are happening in our room. Islands are being built, models of the Earth are being made, and kids are excited about what happens each day. As it gets darker outside we will be heading outside to observe the stars and to identify different constellations, visiting the planetarium at the Museum, learning about the different rocks that the Earth is made of, and so much more! Please come and spend time with us, we would love to include you on our adventure. Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching! We will soon be setting these times up. If you will be out of town, please let me know ahead of time so that we can schedule an alternative time to meet. This is a great opportunity for your kiddo to show you the work they've been doing in class and for me to share all of the successes that they've had this year so far. Please make sure to check the snack schedule here on our website. I have sent one home with students for this month but I will not be sending one home unless requested in order to save paper from here on out. Thank you, thank you! Email me with any questions, concerns, or if you want to chat!
