!Do you have a lovely weekend? I hope so!
This week is a short week, we have a full day on Monday and Tuesday and then Wednesday and Thursday are half-days with release at 12:30. There will be no school on Friday. Have you signed up for your conference yet? Please do so immediately. Times are filling up and I would love to meet with you to talk about your child's successes in class this year! We have some seriously awesome field trips coming up quickly. I just added a trip to the Apple Store at the 5th Avenue Mall (walking) for November 20th and we will also be visiting the UAA campus/planetarium tentatively on November 18th from 10am until 2pm (city bus most likely). *Stay tuned for more information on both of these! There will be no spelling word homework and/or test this week since it's a short week. We will be wrapping up the Timeline of Life lesson and enjoying a celebration on Thursday for earning our word, "Congratulations". The kids are working to earn the word "respect" for special snacks provided by me for this day. Have a great week! Hello families,
Please make sure to get online to the conference scheduler and select your conference for your child as soon as possible. The longer you wait the less options you will have. If have openings for Monday and Tuesday morning or on the half-days now. We are still in need of at least 3 chaperones for our November 5th field trip. Can you come with us? We will be going to the PAC to see Click, Clack, Moo. Admission is $7 for this. I still have several students who need their forms and admission turned in. October 16th and 23rd are in-service days, there will be no school. A HUGE thanks to Jon Davis for building us a Free Little Library to share with our school and the community! We have a few things to finish on it before we place it on the school grounds. If you have books of various genres and levels that you would like to donate to our library we would be so appreciative. Please know these books will be loved by many! Have a great week! Christine Homan Important Dates: October 16th- In-service October 21/22- Half-days and conferences, school is released at 12:30! October 23rd- In-service November 5th- Click, Clack, Moo! Field trip. Hello my wonderful families!
Wow, what an amazing and eye opening last week we have had! We have been on "restriction" in order to guide and encourage positive behaviors and responsibility in the classroom this week. The kids have been working hard every day, stayed on task and focused, and have earned back their freedoms. I am so pleased to say that! They have shown me that they can be responsible self managers, get all of their tasks done, and have time in the afternoons for "choice" and alternative group activities. Many of the kids told me that they were able to focus more and it was easier to get their work done. I'm hoping that this learning experience carries over and that we will have an easier go of things the rest of the school year. This week we will be diving into the Second Great Lesson; the coming of life! This is one of our favorite lessons as it offers so many different learning opportunities and is filled with excitement. This lesson will begin on Wednesday and will carry through the month of October with much of our science and cultural lessons planned around it. On Friday we have our second field trip. We will be going to West High to watch the play Aladdin. Have you turned in your permission slips yet? Both forms for Oct.9th and Nov.5th field trips are due on Wednesday with the $15 admission fee. We are also in need of at least 2 more chaperones for Friday's field trip. Parent-Teacher Conferences are approaching quickly and we have a new scheduling system. Half-days are October 21st and 22nd and there is no school on October 2rd. Please read the information below for how to access the scheduler: Parent Teacher Conferences The upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Oct 21st and 22nd. Students will be released from school at 12:30 on Oct 21st & 22nd with in-services on Oct. 23rd. Conferences offer parents the opportunity to find out how their child is getting along with classmates, how they’re progressing in school and what can be done at home to build upon strengths and overcome challenges. Parents now have the ability to schedule conference times online. The Conference Scheduler will be available for your convenience beginning, October 7th. Scheduling early offers you the opportunity to secure conference times that work best for your family. Please visit the online scheduler at: www.asdk12.org/parents **If you are unable to use the online Conference Scheduler, please contact your student’s teacher via phone or email. We are excited about this upcoming opportunity for teachers and parents/guardians to discuss important information that will help students throughout their education. As always, please catch me at school between 7am and 8:30 or after school before 4pm. You can also email me at [email protected]! Thank you for all of your support!
